Subject: Academic and Research Networks in the Asia and Pacific Region:

Overview of a Framework for Development

The following paper outlines the current situation and future developments

of academic and research networks in Asia and Pacific region.

Issues concerning the prospects of information, networking applications

and related environments will be underlined.

A possible structure for development to tackle all these issues in a reional

framework is also introduced.

Its main purpose is to provide a basis for discussion and for policy guidance.

Should the main conceptual initiatives attract the interest of potential

donors and participants, a detailed document will be proposed.
