Subject: the first activity

I would like to start the mailing list, ap-conf on the very specific issue

on sessions during JWCC to be held in December 1993 in Taipei. We are

interested in the sessions as you find in INET, JENC, Nordunet,... In the

other words, JWCC could have several tracks in parallel sessions as follows;

Theory/Research

Implementation/Development

Services/Operation

We would like to see enhancement in the second and third categories at JWCC 93.

The session candidates I consider can be found at the end of this message.

We need to come up with the session proposal with possible speakers by the end

of May so that the speakers can prepare the presentation by the end of June,

which is the deadline set by the JWCC committee.

Please comment on what sessions are appropriate. I also would like to see

inclusion of other members. Can you recommend anybody?

have you thought about the plenary session based on the Network Implementation

of my memo? if you can get

Gigabit Testbed/National Information Infrastructure of Singapore IT2000

New Social Infrastructure of newly announced Japanese high speed

networking project

Information (super)highway, the newly announced Korean project

(any from Taiwan?)

then it would be very nice plenary session.

the first one on local language support is a typical panel session as one of

parallel sessions. the second one on global internet technology is a regular

session as one of parallel sessions or regular session(whichevery you prefer).

I would like to clarify several things on JWCC and APCCIRN meetings in Taipei.

A. APCCIRN Meeting(Semi-annual) may be held in Taipei in December pending

approval from APCCIRN Meeting in August in San Francisco. If this is the

case, the meeting will be held for one to two days PRIOR to JWCC.

B. In order to enhance symbiosis among computer communications/networking

community in Asia, some of us proposed closer cooperation between JWCC and

APCCIRN. Examples are more paper presentation from APCCIRN participants at

JWCC, and a panel session. These cooperation is to enrich JWCC and give

incentive for APCCIRN members to participate to JWCC as well as its own

meeting.

C. All JWCC sessions should be held within the framework of JWCC. Otherwise,

we may not enrich JWCC. People may submit a paper, and propose a session

including a panel session. It is up to JWCC-Program Committee to select

papers and session proposals.

D. APCCIRN is working on the session proposals as well as paper submission

according to the above framework.

E. These activities may be tasking the host organizations too much by now.

We may focus more on a successful workshop in traditional content and

for Taiwan to be a good member of JWCC with long-term perspective.

F. The conclusion is that let's try to get many good papers and session

proposals. There may be session proposal(s) from the APCCIRN group,

which should be handled like any other proposal by JWCC as we normally do

in any technical meeting.

Subject: Interop for Asia

Interop has been operated in USA so far; twice a year with the following size;

Exhibition: tens of thousands

Conference: thousands

Tutorial: thousands

Interop ventured into Europe this year, and Asia from the next year. By 1994,

there will be 4 or 5 major conferences/exhibitions around the world every year.

Interop may become major focal point of networking meetings along INET.

Many of the topics we have discussed so far may be handled at Interop, and

Interop Tokyo(annual event) may effectively become the focal point for the

Asian region. This may impact potential "APNET" as well as JWCC.

PS: there will be the first program committee meeting of Interop Tokyo, July

1994 next month, and i will let you know more on this matter.
